General Information

Below you will find General Information about Bicester and the surrounding area.

Bicester is probably the fastest growing town in the UK and currently has a population of around 33,000.  You can read about it’s history elsewhere on this site.

It is set to benefit from around £1Billion of public and private sector investment over the coming years; this includes:

  • Improved rail services to and from Oxford
  • £50million town centre project due to complete in the summer of 2013
  • £20million Civic building with new larger library
  • The East West rail project that will connect the town with Milton Keynes and Bedford
  • Housing developments delivering up to 9,500 new homes and affordable homes until 2030
  • The promotion of the town as a location to work, play and live

The town centre has relatively few empty units, well below the national average.  It offers a blend of independent and national retailers on a flat and level terrain making it ideal for those with mobility issues.  The independent shops offer expertise and service alongside excellent value; these are supported by a broad range of restaurants, takeaways, coffee shops.

The town council offices, in Launton Road, are set in award winning gardens that are worth visiting through out the year.  In the summer months they play host to a range of evening events including, family fun days and concerts.

The town benefits from two open Railway stations, both operated by Chiltern Railways.   Bicester North Station sees trains going to and from Lonodn Marylebone and Birmingham/Stratford-Upon-Avon.  The shortest journey time to London is now just under 50 minutes thanks to the Chiltern Mainline service.  Meanwhile Bicester Town Station has a regular service to and from Oxford.

To the West of the town sits Bicester Village; a tourism and retail hot spot with around 100 brand names that attract over 5million visitors per year.  If you are visiting Bicester Village, be sure to journey on into the town and enjoy what it has to offer as well.
